Pocket spring mattresses offer durability, comfort, and responsiveness. They are comprised of hundreds or thousands of small individually wrapped springs, nestled in thick layers of almost exclusively natural fibres like, cotton and wool. The pocket springs work independently meaning they react better to different body weights and shapes and mould to the shape of your body.
It is important to choose the correct tension so your body has the correct support. As a general guide:
Up to 11 stone (70kg): Soft
11-16 stone (70-102kg): Medium
16-20 stone (102-127kg): Firm
Above 20 stone (127kg): Extra Firm
However, we always recommend trying the beds in our showroom as everyone has different requirements. Allow time to try the beds and try laying in different sleeping positions so you can come to the best possible decision.
Most people tend to sleep in the same position on their mattress every night. Body impressions are therefore a normal occurrence and a positive indication that the generous amount of upholstery fillings are conforming to your body’s unique shape, weight and sleeping pattern. This will be particularly prominent in the first weeks of use but rotating and turning the mattress as described below will ensure a more even settlement.
The majority of mattresses are upholstered with fillings on both sides and will require a Seasonal Turn. Turning the mattress over and rotating end-to-end periodically will allow the fillings to redistribute throughout and ensure even settlement on both sides of the mattress, helping its recovery and longevity. It is recommended to turn and rotate your mattress once a week during the first 3 months and thereafter with the Seasons. Mattresses can be heavy, so seek assistance when turning and rotating your mattress. We offer a turning service if required.
In the case of ‘No Turn’ mattresses it is sufficient to simply rotate the mattress seasonally to ensure equal wear and tear.
In the case of zip and link mattresses, please separate the mattresses before turning or rotating.
